Final design of Typography Infographic.

I realised that although I handed in my infographic project, I forgot to put my final designs on my blog, so here it is.

My infographic takes the form of a map. As I am representing the different typography that can be found around the city of Bath, I felt that centering the infographic around a map would be the most effective way to show the information. I initially started with my project by looking at Google maps of Bath city centre. I experimented with printing off the maps, tracing them and then scanning them back in to Photoshop. I got on quite well with that idea and so I continued to experiment with cropping different areas of the map until I got it looking how I wanted it to. As most of my photographs of typography are focused in one general area of the city, it made sense for my map to be of just the area that was relevant. I became really interested in creating a old looking map, as Bath is an ancient city, and quite a lot of the typography that I found looks quite old fashioned or you can tell that it is quite old. I researched quite a lot into old maps so that I could get an idea for the colours, fonts and styles that were employed. I wanted to keep my hand drawn map, over a digitalised one as I think that it seems more personal and is a little bit different to one that has been drawn digitally. Having a hand drawn map also makes it look more like an old map, as this is how maps in the past were created. On the reverse side of the map I wanted to have all of my photographs with the relevant information about the typography. I initially was going to have the photographs popping out of the map but it felt far too cluttered having all of the info on the one page. I arranged the images on the page, so that it could be on the reverse side of the map, and both could then be folded down into a leaflet, like most informational maps. I chose to condense down the information that was written as I wanted it to seem punchy and for it to stand out. It started off with far too much information and which was just too much and almost defeated the point of creating an infographic anyway!

I am pleased with the outcome of my infographic. I think that it represents the information clearly and in a visually interesting way.
